This half-day shared excursion centres around the impressive extinct Rano Kau Volcano, with its sweeping views over the crater lake, island and the vast Pacific Ocean. The tour will also include the ceremonial village of Orongo where the mythical ‘Birdman’ competition, a heroic quest for the island’s kinship, took place. Here, you can see distinctive petroglyphs carved into the rocks. On the way back to Hanga Roa you’ll see the unrestored Ahu Vinapu, an altar made of basalt that is reminiscent of pre-Inca architecture.
