With an impressive setting, the BordeBaker Lodge sits alongside the mighty Baker River on the unpaved road of the Carretera Austral. This remote lodge is a full day’s drive south from the nearest airport at Balmaceda, but the views on this long journey are spectacular and the lodge is in surprisingly close proximity to many natural attractions, including the powerful river confluence and the sensational Marble Caves. Standards and quality are high, making this well-run eco-hotel a welcome exception to the usual rustic accommodation options available in the area. With a focus on sustainability, the lodge has been constructed from native woods and the water here is treated, whilst views from the panoramic windows of the inviting lounge and dining room extend over the Campos de Hielo North. The stylish design extends to the lodge’s seven rooms, each of which have stunning views, gas heating and luxuries such as goose feather down duvets. Ingredients here are often locally sourced from the onsite gardens and the excellent food gives a flavour of true Patagonian cuisine.
