The attractive Maipo, Casablanca and Colchagua Valleys are some of Chile’s most important wine producing regions. Head out for a half or full day tour to get first-hand experience of the regions. Tours range from private tastings at family-run boutique vineyards through to multiple stop itineraries, including some of the larger scale operations and sprawling wine estates.
Key attributes of the region allow for production of quality wines at a reasonable cost, such as the year-round sun, low humidity and volcanic dry soil. These qualities lead to stronger vines, deeper flavours and fewer pests. The Maipo Valley is less than an hour east of Santiago, making the region the closest and most convenient stop to sample some of Chile’s full-bodied reds and crisp whites. One of the world-famous brands in the Maipo Valley is Concha Y Toro, which makes frequent appearances on shelves throughout the United Kingdom.
